THE
COACHING SELECTION PROCESS
Background Check
Safety of our players is our number one priority.
Because our players in some instances my be without other parent
supervision, we want insure our parents that we have taken every
possible step in checking a coaches background. Often our
background checks are already done because the majority of our
coaches come from other organizations that require them. We
simply verify with these organizations as to the coach's history.
In cases where a previous background check was not initiated, we
perform our own reference checks and in some cases, perform a formal
background check.
Initial Coaching Year
In most cases, our first year coaches become assistants to
coaches that have tenure with the organization. This time is
used to introduce the coach to our organizational values,
strategies, and structures. The Colorado Fever system is
introduced and time is allowed for our players to become familiar
with the new coach and his or her coaches style. With 6 months
to a year, the coach maybe placed in a head coaching position but
will be assisted by a tenured coach. After 12 months, the
coach is often placed solely with a designated team. This
coach will often follow this team throughout the organization.
Code of Ethics
Club directors, which include the entire coaching staff,
meet often do discuss ethics within the organization. All
coaches are evaluated by the Club Directors and the coaching staff
on their performance each season. All coaches are required to
attend games of other coaches for a number of reasons. Some of
these reasons include ethics evaluations. Should a coach be
found not following the club's code of ethics, whether written or
implied, the coach may be dismissed immediately or after the season;
whichever is deemed appropriate.
Training and Performance
All Colorado Fever coaches are required to attend at least
one coaching seminar and/or training per year. This training
is often designated by the club. Coaches also meet on a
regular basis to discuss strategies throughout the entire club.
Often coach performance is a correlation of strategies developed by
the entire coaching staff. However, should a coach fail to
acquire the necessary training and or provide the necessary
performance expected by the club, a coach may be dismissed. |
